Download and run
The app runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, each for x64 and arm64, without Node.js.

SHA256SUMS.txt, next to them in each release, lists every file’s checksum.
First start
Section titled “First start”The builds aren’t signed with a publisher certificate, so the first start takes one extra step.
Extract the .zip and run Work IQ Showcase.exe. When SmartScreen says it protected your PC, choose More info, then Run anyway.
Unzip the file and open Work IQ Showcase.app. When macOS blocks it, choose Open Anyway under System Settings › Privacy & Security, and confirm.
Extract the .tar.gz and run ./work-iq-showcase. Where user namespaces are restricted, as on Ubuntu 24.04, Chromium’s sandbox helper must belong to root first. Run this once in the app’s folder:
sudo chown root:root chrome-sandbox && sudo chmod 4755 chrome-sandboxCheck the download
Section titled “Check the download”Compare the file with its line in SHA256SUMS.txt, in the folder you downloaded both to.
$file = 'Work-IQ-Showcase-<version>-windows-x64.zip'$expected = (Select-String -Path SHA256SUMS.txt -SimpleMatch $file).Line.Split(' ')[0](Get-FileHash $file -Algorithm SHA256).Hash -eq $expectedTrue means the file is intact.
grep macos-arm64 SHA256SUMS.txt | shasum -a 256 -cgrep linux-x64 SHA256SUMS.txt | sha256sum -cThe Work IQ CLI for local MCP
Section titled “The Work IQ CLI for local MCP”The Work IQ CLI’s license doesn’t allow shipping it in the downloads. For local MCP, install it once:
npm install -g @microsoft/workiqThis needs Node.js. The app finds the CLI on your PATH and, on macOS and Linux, also on your login shell’s PATH, for example when nvm manages Node.js. It looks each time you connect, so there’s no need to restart it. If it still can’t find the CLI, check that workiq version works in a new terminal. The other routes don’t use the CLI.
Run from source
Section titled “Run from source”With Node.js 22.12 or later:
git clone https://github.com/jeffrey-groneberg/workiq-learning.gitcd workiq-learningnpm ci && npm startOn macOS, Linux or Git Bash, ./startup.sh does the same, and installs the dependencies only on the first run. From source, the Work IQ CLI comes with the dependencies. To pre-fill the Connect dialogs, copy .env.example to .env: see Connect settings.
Package it yourself
Section titled “Package it yourself”npm run package builds the app for the system you run it on, into dist/. Its options go after --:
npm run package -- --arch arm64 --without-cli--arch x64 or --arch arm64 builds for another CPU, and --without-cli leaves out the Work IQ CLI, as the downloads do.
